Background of the Study
As universities continue to expand and offer more online services, providing timely and efficient student support has become increasingly challenging. The University of Maiduguri, located in Maiduguri LGA, Borno State, has recognized the need to improve its student support services, which include addressing queries regarding course registration, fees, academic programs, and general student welfare. Traditional student support systems are often overwhelmed, leading to delayed responses and reduced student satisfaction.
AI-powered chatbots have emerged as an effective tool for providing real-time support, as they can respond to student inquiries instantly and efficiently. By integrating a chatbot into the university’s support system, the University of Maiduguri can offer personalized, 24/7 assistance to students. This study aims to implement an AI-powered chatbot that will enhance real-time student support services at the university.
Statement of the Problem
The traditional methods of student support at the University of Maiduguri have proven to be insufficient in handling the volume of student inquiries. Students often face delays in receiving responses to their questions, which affects their academic experience. An AI-powered chatbot can help mitigate these issues by providing immediate, accurate, and personalized responses to student queries.
Objectives of the Study
1. To design and implement an AI-powered chatbot to provide real-time support for students at the University of Maiduguri.
2. To assess the effectiveness of the chatbot in improving student satisfaction and response times.
3. To evaluate the feasibility of integrating the chatbot with existing student support systems at the university.
Research Questions
1. How can an AI-powered chatbot improve the efficiency and responsiveness of student support services?

Research Hypotheses

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of an AI-powered chatbot for real-time student support at the University of Maiduguri, located in Maiduguri LGA, Borno State. It will not cover other aspects of student services, such as counseling or academic advising.
